A beautiful satellite photo shows us the volcanic island of Fogo seen from space. At the right side of the photo is Fogo. At the bottom left is the island of Brava with three small islands Rombos-Grande, Luis-Carneiro and Cima.
Fogo has a diameter of approximately 25 kilometers. The black area in the middle of the island is the crater of the volcano Pico do Fogo. This is also the highest point of Fogo at around 2,800 meters. The volcano erupted for the last time in November 2014 and was active for more than 2 months. The lava destroyed a large part of the buildings in and near the Caldeiras.
In the northeast of the island a lot of green can be seen on the satellite photo. This is an overgrown area where the famous Fogo coffee is grown. You can also find other crops such as oranges, beans and peanuts. The yellow and orange areas on the photo mark the more dry rocky areas of Fogo.
