Airplane passengers who land on the Cape Verde Islands should – in most cases – pay a security surcharge. This security surcharge in Cape Verde is called the Airport Security Fee (TSA) and covers the costs for border security, prevention and safety. Nowadays, most countries require a security surcharge. For the use of an airport within the European Union, for example, this extra charge is included in the flight ticket.
For who is the Airport Security Fee obliged?
For most air passengers, the Airport Security Fee (TSA) is obliged. The security fee applies to international and domestic airline passengers who use one of the airports on the Cape Verde islands. There are a number of exceptions, namely:
- Children under 2 years;
- Passengers on national official missions;
- Passengers of aircraft that use an airport in Cape Verde due to force majeure (e.g. meteorological);
- Transfer passengers;
- Citizens with a Cape Verdean passport, their children under the age of 18 and spouses;
- Residents with a passport other than those of Cape Verde on presentation of the residence permit, residence visa or other valid identification document.
What is the amount of the security fee?
Domestic flights
The security fee for domestic flights is around 150 CVE (about 1.36 euro). This amount is usually charged when you purchasing the flight ticket.
International flights
The security fee for international flights is around 3,400 CVE (approximately 30.80 euro). The amount can be paid at the time of registration via the EASE platform registration is required. For the address see the following section.
Mandatory registration form and Airport Security Fee (TSA)
Registration must be made before departure to Cape Verde via the form of the online platform Ease.gov.cv. Preferably at least 5 days before departure. You will be asked for passport data, arrival and departure dates, flight number, place of accommodation, et cetera.
Note I: the implementation of the foregoing can still be in a transition phase. The security fee can also be paid to customs in cash or credit card, but with a small additional extra charge. If you have booked a trip through a travel organization, there is a chance that the tour operator has already arranged the registration / security fee for you. To be sure, always ask your tour operator whether the Airport Security Fee is included.
Note II: sometimes the platform of Ease.gov.cv is giving issues (errors). We would advice you to contact the website owners by mail: ease-support @ cv.zetes.com or via other ways.
Visa
Before leaving to the Cape Verde Islands, verify if you need a visa. And whether your passport is valid for a sufficient period of time.

Why does the EASE website require an additional €28 “publishing fee” on top of the €31 airport security fee when applying to pay for this fee online?
In addition to the €31 fee payable at the airport, how much is the “small” additional charge they apply?
CapeVerdeIslands.org says
Hello,
Isn’t this the airport security fee PLUS the mandatory registration? In total will this be around 60 euros.

The EASE website is hopeless and very buggy, I have tried paying for a VISA three times and each time after giving them my credit card details I get a blank screen, should not be allowed as I am not sure if the application has gone through or whether I am being charged
CapeVerdeIslands.org says
Yes, we totally agree with you. Hope they fix this soon! In the meanwhile you always can email them or just paying the fee when arriving at the airport.

Hello,
I am unable to pay the tax fee on the wesbite. The email address above also does not work when reporting the issue.
How else can we pay the fee? On arrival at the airport?
CapeVerdeIslands.org says
Hello Heather,
That is very annoying. An alternative email adress you could try is ease-support @ cv.zetes.com (note: without the spaces). Otherwise, payment is also possible on the airport for a slighlty higher price.

I had to change my flight but i had already paid the airport tax using the original flight details. Can i use this same receipt for my new flight even though the details have changed? Or do i have to pay again so that the receipt has my new flight details?

CapeVerdeIslands.org says
Hello Kimberley,
We heard that some people are facing the same issue. Did you share you observation with the webmaster / owners of the Ease website?
As an alternative, you also can fill in the information at the airport. Downside is that you have to wait a bit longer.

It’s not working for me either. It’s a pain because we’ll have to waste time on arrival and pay more for the privilege.
Andy Grant says
Found a way around it! Rather than clicking the link on the UK Govmt webpage
Instead go straight to ease.gov.cv (Ignore the warning by Google that it is unsafe) then click on the form and it works!
Stuart says
Now Cape Verde is open to the UK again we are planning a trip very soon. I am UK citizen and do not need a visa for Cape Verde. Can I pay the airport tax on arrival as I will only receive my passport a few days before we depart.
CapeVerdeIslands.org says
Hello Stuart,
This is possible. Expect a small extra fee and some extra waiting time at the customs. Enjoy your holiday!
