Visit Cape Verde by sea and travel to other beautiful destinations. A cruise vacation is ideal if you want to visit the most beautiful destinations in a short period and also want to enjoy all the comfort and luxury. A cruise vacation is a special experience for all ages. During the trip you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea, the facilities on the cruise ship and the nice variety of destinations. The favorable geographical location of the Cape Verde islands with compared to countries (and archipelagos) also makes it ideal for short cruise vacations.
What is a cruise holiday?
With a cruise you visit multiple destinations with a luxury ship. This cruise ship is often a super deluxe hotel with all the amenities you can expect from a good hotel. In addition to your accommodation (cabin) think of a lobby (atrium), shops, restaurants, sports facilities, swimming pools, spa and beauty center, casino, theater, professional entertainment, childcare and medical facilities. Everything you need is included in the price. Available facilities depend among other things on the type and size of the cruise ship.
So there is something for everyone and you can enjoy freely during a cruise vacation. During a cruise you have a beautiful view of the sea and the islands / coast that you pass. For longer journeys, the cruise ship often departs in the evening or at night, making the best use of your travel time. The next morning you will wake up with a new beautiful view.
Destinations Cape Verde cruises
Just like the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde islands are at a strategic crossroads between Europe, Africa and America. Cruises between the continents often call at the Cape Verde archipelago. Cruises between Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, Azores, Maderia (Macaronesia region) are also popular as these archipelagos are relatively close to each other. The distance between Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, for example, is only around 1,400 kilometers.
A number of cruise travel routes that include Cape Verde as a destination include:
- Canary Islands – Cape Verde
- South Africa – Namibia – Cape Verde – Canary Islands
- Brazil – Cape Verde – Canary Islands – Portugal
- Portugal – Madeira – Canary Islands – Cape Verde
Cape Verde consists of 9 inhabited islands and only a few have facilities available to receive a large cruise ship. The largest ports are in Santiago (Praia) and Sao Vicente (Porto Grande, Mindelo). On Sao Vicente, people are currently – with subsidies from the Dutch government – building a cruise ship terminal and extra facilities. An upgrade is necessary to further expand the number of arrivals and to maintain quality / safety. With the arrival of more tourists, the cruise ship terminal can give the economy an extra boost.
Visa
If you are taking a cruise vacation with a destination on Cape Verde then you do not need to apply for a separate tourist visa yourself, as long as you leave the archipelago again via the cruise ship. The cruise lines usually provide the tourist visa as part of the package offered. If Cape Verde is your departure or final destination for the cruise vacation and you make the rest of your trip by plane, then in most cases you will need a tourist visa / registration. Take a good look at what is included in the cruise package.

There should be cruises, and flights, between the Caribbean and Cabo Verde. I live in the Caribbean. I have been to Cabo Verde to visit friends, but have to fly through U.S., or Europe, from Caribbean, to get there. Expensive, and time consuming. I know in a capitalistic world, people are concerned with money, and i guess no one feels there’s money to be made in cruising or flying from Caribbean to Cabo Verde.

Hello Andrea,
There are several cruises coming from Spain or Portugal visiting Cape Verde. For example a cruise starting in Lisbon with stops in
Funchal (Madeira); Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands); Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands); Mindelo (Cape Verde); Praia (Cape Verde); Dakar (Senegal). We would recommend you to check the major cruise companies.
Best,
