Cape Verde is one of the six best destinations for diving during the winter months. This is said by the world’s largest diving organization PADI (Professional Association for Diving Instructors). In addition to the Cape Verde islands, the top-6 consists of (random order): Gran Canaria, Malta, Mozambique, Oman and Jordan.
As the legendary and sea researcher Jacques Cousteau stated at the time, the underwater world of Cape Verde is unique and full of marine life and coral. In Cape Verde you can dive all year round, for there is no real rain season. Due to the different sea currents that pass Cape Verde, the waters around the islands are a mix of tropical and Mediterranean marine life. PADI also indicates that the winter months are ideal for spotting whales, for example. The humpback and sperm whales spend during the annual migration a time in the ocean around Cape Verde. You can also admire species such as mantras, sharks and turtles. With the variety of shipwrecks, rock formations, coral reefs, caves, rock walls and many fish species, the underwater world offers a diver a lot. Both for the beginner and the more advanced diver.
