The Cape Verde airline TACV Cabo Verde Airlines has undergone a change in recent years. All changes have led to a new name. From now on the national airline is called Cabo Verde Airlines. In addition to the new name, the colors of the aircraft have also changed. There is now more blue present, which represents the color of Cape Verde. Cabo Verde Airlines currently flies between Cape Verde and a number of major cities in Europe, the United States, Brazil and Senegal.
From TACV to Cabo Verde Airlines
Cabo Verde Airlines has had economically a hard time in recent years. Despite the growth of the Cape Verde islands as a tourist destination, the national airline could not make profit from it. In 2015, TACV Cabo Verde Airlines flew directly from Rotterdam The Hague Airport to the island of Sal. They were also responsible for all domestic flights within the Cape Verde archipelago. These domestic flights were taken over by Binter CV in mid-2017. The government wanted to make Cabo Verde Airlines profitable again. A change and reorganization was therefore necessary. Eventually a privatization process was started and Icelandair Group became 51% owner of the company in 2019.
Current destinations Cabo Verde Airlines
Icelandair wants to help making Cape Verde a connecting point between Europe and South America with Cape Verde Airlines. There are already flights between different continents. Destinations to and from the islands of Sal and Santiago are:
– Boston (United States)
– Dakar (Senegal)
– Fortaleza (Brazil)
– Recife (Brazil)
– Salvador da Bahia (Brazil)
– Lisbon (Portugal)
– Paris (France)
– Rome (Italy)
